Learn how to install a pocket replacement window in a house with vinyl, aluminum or wood lap siding, or a brick exterior. Each window varies, so be sure to follow the manufacturer's instructions for your specific window. First, prepare the window frame by checking for and replacing any damaged areas. Install the sill adapter in the new window, and perform a test-fit to ensure you have the proper sized window.Have someone hold the window inside the frame and drill two weep holes. Apply a bead of sealant along the inside of the exterior blind stops. Insert the window back into the frame and insert shims near the top of one jam, line up with the hole in the frame. Drill a pilot hole in the shim and drill a screw about halfway in. Do the same on the other side of the window. Measure diagonally to ensure the window is plumb and square. Set shims at the rest of the screw holes, drill pilot holes and drive in screws. Apply a bead of sealant on the exterior. On the interior apply insulating foam between the window and rough frame. Allow the foam to expand and cure.Verify that the window opens and closes smoothly and properly. Install the old interior sash stops or new trim. Clean your new window.
