k24 kenya nairobi diaries Troubled waters of Victoria: Fishermen allege harassment

Fishermen from Budalang'i area in Busia County are an angry lot, they claim Ugandan police are harassing them over access to fishing area along the border of Kenya and Uganda in Lake Victoria.
Led by their chairman Robert Anema, the fishermen have called on the security agencies in the country to deploy police officers in Lake Victoria to guard the Kenyan boundaries claiming Ugandan police officers have been soliciting for money whenever they are caught fishing at Sumba Island which is said to be within Kenyan boundaries
It is said that the fishermen are beaten, fed with raw fish, their fishing gadgets taken away and even some of them arrested and taken to Ugandan police cells.
